The Florentin in Frankfurt Redefines Contemporary European Luxury

Althoff Hotels, one of Germany’s most respected privately owned luxury hospitality groups, has steadily built its reputation on refined service, elegant design and a strong sense of individuality. Founded in 1987 by Thomas H. Althoff and Elke Diefenbach-Althoff with the opening of the Hotel Regent International in Cologne, the group has since expanded its footprint across Europe. Today, its portfolio includes the Althoff Collection, AMERON and Urban Loft brands, with properties spanning Germany, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

A new phase in the company’s evolution began in 2020 when renowned hotelier Frank Marrenbach assumed the role of CEO. Under his leadership, the group initiated plans for two flagship luxury developments in Cologne and Frankfurt, aimed at strengthening its presence in the upper tier of European hospitality. While the Cologne project remains under renovation, Frankfurt welcomed the opening of THE FLORENTIN in December 2025, marking a significant addition to the city’s luxury landscape.

Previously known as Villa Kennedy and operated by Rocco Forte Hotels, the property has undergone an extensive transformation before reopening under its new identity. Following a substantial refurbishment, THE FLORENTIN has emerged as a sophisticated destination that blends contemporary luxury with historic character. Initially attracting a strong corporate clientele due to its central location, the hotel is increasingly drawing leisure travellers seeking privacy and understated elegance.

Guest rooms and suites are among the most spacious in Frankfurt, designed with comfort and functionality in mind. Interiors favour subtle sophistication over excess, combining premium materials with carefully curated finishes. High-end technology is seamlessly integrated, while generous layouts and dedicated seating areas make the spaces equally suited for business and relaxation. Exceptional sound insulation further enhances the sense of calm throughout the property.

The wellness facilities reflect the hotel’s overall philosophy of discreet luxury. The spa offers personalised treatments across five treatment rooms, including a double suite for couples. A naturally lit indoor pool forms the centrepiece of the wellness area, complemented by a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin. Relaxation spaces feature warm tones, natural textures and soft lighting, extending into a tranquil spa garden designed for quiet retreat.

One of the hotel’s most striking features is its expansive inner courtyard, which is expected to become a focal point during warmer seasons. The architectural scale and serene atmosphere evoke the elegance of grand European palace hotels, creating a rare sense of openness in the heart of a financial metropolis. Despite its strong luxury positioning, service remains approachable, attentive and effortlessly refined.

The defining element of THE FLORENTIN, however, is the historic Villa itself. Once the residence of Frankfurt’s prominent Speyer family, the mansion now houses a collection of individually designed signature suites that combine heritage with contemporary comfort. The spacious communal areas emphasise privacy and tranquillity, offering guests an experience that feels both exclusive and deeply personal. A stay within the Villa carries a distinct sense of intimacy and timeless sophistication, echoing an aristocratic style of hospitality rarely found in modern urban hotels.

With its balance of history, design and service, THE FLORENTIN represents a confident new chapter for Althoff Hotels and sets a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in Frankfurt.
