Actor and global icon Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently experienced an emotional moment while addressing students at Harvard Business School during its India Week celebrations. Invited to deliver a fireside keynote alongside her close friend and business partner Anjula Acharia, the session revolved around the theme, “The India We Imagine.” What began as a professional speaking engagement soon turned into a deeply personal and moving experience for the actress.
Sharing her thoughts later on social media, Priyanka revealed that she initially approached the event with confidence, believing it to be just another keynote address. However, the moment she stepped onto the stage and looked at the audience, her emotions shifted unexpectedly.
Seeing students dressed in sarees, kurtas, and traditional Indian attire left a profound impact on her. The sight of young Indians and allies celebrating their identity at one of the world’s most prestigious institutions filled her with pride. She described the audience as a reflection of the India she had always imagined — confident, visible, and unapologetically rooted in its culture while thriving on a global stage.
Priyanka reflected on how different this moment felt compared to her own teenage years in the United States during the 1990s. As a young student attending school in Iowa and later in Massachusetts, she often felt isolated due to the lack of diversity and representation. At that time, she could never have imagined standing years later at Harvard, addressing a room full of students who represented the very change she once longed to see.
She shared that the moment nearly brought her to tears because the environment before her was vastly different from her own experiences growing up. For her, it symbolized progress — a reminder that each generation builds opportunities for the next. Seeing young Indians confidently occupying spaces of influence and leadership gave her hope for the future.
Priyanka expressed happiness that the next generation, including her daughter Malti Marie, would grow up in a world where identity and belonging are more openly embraced. She emphasized that progress is collective, shaped by the efforts and struggles of those who came before.
Concluding her message, she thanked the students for their warmth and energy, and expressed gratitude for her family, including her husband Nick Jonas and daughter, whom she affectionately called her “forever Valentines.”
The moment, she said, was not just about personal achievement, but about witnessing the evolution of representation — a powerful reminder of how far the community has come and how much further it can go.
