Bangladesh’s New Leadership Reaches Out to India Ahead of Swearing-In

India has been included among a group of 13 countries invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Tarique Rahman. The invitation is being seen as an early diplomatic gesture aimed at strengthening regional engagement following the party’s decisive victory in the recent national elections.

The invitation was extended by interim government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. According to diplomatic sources cited by Prothom Alo, the guest list includes several regional and international partners such as China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives and Bhutan, along with India.

The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the National Parliament complex in Dhaka, where the new administration is expected to formally assume office.

India’s inclusion in the guest list comes amid visible efforts by the BNP leadership to engage with New Delhi following its electoral victory earlier this month. Observers view the move as an attempt to maintain diplomatic balance and reassure regional partners as Bangladesh enters a new political phase under the incoming government.

The ceremony is expected to draw significant regional attention, as analysts watch closely for signals regarding Bangladesh’s future foreign policy direction and its approach toward key neighbours in South Asia.
